QED Environmental Services have become qualified for forensic testing of chemical residues from Clandestine Drug Laboratories.
Updated August 2016
In 2015 QED Environmental Services were accredited as Approved Forensic Testing Contractors by the Western Australian Department of Health. As such QED is fully qualified to assess, plan, and verify remediation of both Tier 1 and Tier 2 clandestine laboratories in line with Department of Health (2014) guidelines.
Approximately 100 clan labs are detected in Western Australia each year. However by WA Polices’ own estimates only 5-10% of all operational clan labs are detected. This means there are around 900 active clan labs in WA each year with only a small number undergoing effective cleaning and decontamination
Common Risks of Clan Labs:
Chemical Hazards:
Biological Hazards:
Physical Hazards:
Under the Guidelines for Notification and Risk Management after Detection of a Clandestine Drug laboratory (Dept. of Health WA, 2014), clandestine laboratories are classified as either Tier 1 or Tier 2 based on their type, size and associated contamination levels. QED Environmental Services as fully accredited to deal with even the most serious cases of clan lab contamination.
